Cash Flow Template & Report

The cash flow report is based on the details input on the cash flow template, which is a standalone reconciliation template in Silverfin that needs to be added to a workflow (if not already there by default).

The purpose of the cash flow reconciliation template is to act as an input template for the Cash flow Report.

Where possible, information is populated as year to date from trial balance movements and working paper input. It is advised to check the figures  against related debtor/creditor accounts to verify true cash movement.

Cash movements that can not be taken from the trial balance or working papers should be manually entered

Cash flow from operating activities

These sections are based on trial balance movement so this is hard coded data. No additional input is needed, unless there is additional activity over and above what has already been accounted for in the template.

There are blank input fields for any additional inputs which may be required. The total values of these input fields are summed together and added to the Cash flow report as "Other Operating Activities".

Cash from investment activities

This section is based on the relevant underlying working paper. Where relevant, there is a hyperlink (see the blue text) to the working paper. In short, if the working paper has been completed, the data should pull through to the corresponding line in the cash flow.

You can, however, overwrite the data displayed. If you take a closer look you'll see the numbers have a dotted underline which means they are editable. When a default number is changed, it will appear in an input box with an orange corner (as shown below):

There are blank input fields for any additional inputs which may be required. The total values of these input fields are summed together and added to the Cash flow report as "Other Operating Activities".

Cash from financial activities

As with cash from investment activities, this section is based on the relevant underlying working paper and can be overwritten if required.

There are blank input fields for any additional inputs which may be required. The total values of these input fields are summed together and added to the Cash flow report as "Other Operating Activities".

Last but not least, any foreign exchange differences can be accounted for (if not already automated). If the workings don't align to the cash balance at year end, the template will not reconcile (as shown below).

Once the template is complete, you can view your cash flow report in the 'Reports' tab on the client file.   Please note you can also navigate to the report by clicking the link included in the info text at the top of the template.

The various period sets ( monthly, quarterly, yearly) are customisable using the Period Sets functionality in Reports. See below:

If you have any questions about the template, let us know! If you don't know where your cash has disappeared to, I'm afraid we can't help much ;)
